Hello esteemed delegates! My name is Ritik, and I will be chairing the United Nations International Children's Emergency Fund (UNICEF) at LIMUN 2019! I've always been a deep, introspective, but soft person. At the same time, I absolutely adore children—no lie. So, it was no surprise to those I am closest with that I chose to chair the UNICEF committee. My life goal is to open an orphanage and live with all of my children in an Indian village-style hut on a few acres of land. I ogle at the thought of cooking for them and comforting them through their lowest points in life. Of course, this all happens after I become the next Bruno Mars/Bill Gates/Bobby Flay, whichever comes first.
I'm pretty all over the place when it comes to my interests. If I'm not cooking, eating, or singing the entire track list of SZA's Ctrl, I'm probably at Alabama State University furthering my ongoing research project on breast cancer health disparities. If there's one thing that I love, it's learning about people's stories and thoughts on life. It's genuinely fascinating when I notice my own views on life change as I hear more and more about others’ experiences.
I personally am not the most experienced at MUN, but when I first began trying last year, I quickly realized how much I loved talking about my views on our world's most pressing issues. Growing up hearing stories about Indian poverty from my parents, I have become very aware of my fairly privileged situation in life, and it feels so surreal when I channel that awareness into serious discussion. The more the committee brainstorms, the more we learn, and the more we learn, the more we begin to realize the value of those around us.
One great thing about LIMUN is how friendly everyone is, so enjoy the experience! Just remember: be ambitious, but don't worry about not being ambitious enough. Don't worry about the prizes. They're really not that deep. Rather, bask in the glory of others’ oddly specific factoids, and, of course, your well deserved break from school!
